Retirement

A friend asked me what I was going to do when I retired.

A hard question. I have set a date in stone in which to retire assuming I should live that long.

But what to do. I told my friend that there might be a trip to the Northwest and Alaska. I like to ride Harleys and to photograph. I love to write.

But Solomon wrote that "Of the making of books there is no end." After visiting some of the local Christian book stores, I agree with Solomon.

Besides, books are too long. The Things of God have Simplicity. There is no book of sunsets, how do you record the wind in the trees, or the smell of the rose?

As I contemplated it further, the Apostles never retired. They died in service of the Master. Likewise, there is no retirement from Chrisitian service.

Even though we may cease working at our "job" our vocation or calling as a Christian continues. We are like the sailing ships blown by the wind. Our port may change as God gives destination. Our final port however is secure and we shall reach it at the end of our journey.

Whether we are before retirement or post retirement, we are still in the Army of God. We go to where we are assigned by the High Command . We are at the disposal of the General and Leader of our Faith.

My retirement plans, just as my current plans, are to do what God tells me to do.

My life is short. It is like a blink of an eye.

My rest will be after I accomplish all that God has for me to do on earth.
