Well, God must love fishermen.
Four of the apostles were fishermen. Mark 1:16-20 says:
As He was going along by the Sea of Gallilee, He saw Simon and Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen.
And Jesus said to them:"Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men."
Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.
Going on a little further, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets.
Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him.
Yep, Jesus liked fishermen, and they liked him. He wiped out a piece of the local fishing trade when he called his disciples. Poor old Zebedee lost his sons from the family business-but they did make good and went on to become world (or perhaps it is better to say "otherworldly" famous.
God calls his people. In one sense, we leave the nets behind. No longer are we out simply to line our own pocket, but we heed the call of Jesus. And people become more important than fish or the other mundane things of life. We leave our nets-for better nets-for we become fishers of men, seeking to "make a way where there is no way" for people to know Christ and to come into the kingdom of heaven.
Our church CCUMC is run by a fishing fanatic. He is a fisher of men. He is fixated on fishing , and the pictures above will prove it. Further his name is Chris and his email is flyfisherofmen@hotmail.com. Now if you are looking for a church and love fishing, this is the place for you. (HarleyDad hates fishing but loves the church anyway.) At any rate, if you love fishing, write this guy.
Like I said, God loves fishermen.
Above are some pictures that show our church and, I think you will agree, the love of fishing is evidenced both in our services and in the church decorations.
