Monster Mash

It is the Monster Mash! What a great way for HarleyDad to celebrate Halloween. So the Harley riders congregated together on Saturday evening and went on a ride. Many of the riders were in costume. Most were couples riding, often with their ghoul friends riding on the back.

The ride was much like a progressive dinner. It began at Cycle Connection. Then it was off to Turtleheads for shrimp and then down rangeline to Woody's. Next the group headed for Timberline for the main course and finally back to Cycle Connection for dessert.

HarleyDad made it with the group as far as Woody's. It was then that he morphed into the Lone Wolf and went howling off into the night, racing down Mainstreet, skirting the gendarmes and ultimately returning home to his family for Chicken noodle soup where he was transformed again to a real live human and family man.

Who says you can't have it all.

Pictures of the Monster Mash are set forth above.

Resurrection Life

Resurrection Life

Make no mistake about it. True Christianity has a couple of core doctrines that transcend imagination and rationality. After all the ways of God are above our ways and God’s thoughts are above our thoughts.

The first is incarnation. As John 3:16 said : “God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son.” God’s son “Immanuel” is the one who came to be with us, live with us, die for us and be the first born from the dead. Somehow God became man, with the seed of God miraculously being carried by a young virgin girl, named Mary. A daughter of Eve would be involved in bruising the head of the serpent as it states in Genesis. Through child bearing a woman would play a role in the salvation of the earth. Is it miraculous? Yes. Can I fully understand it? No.

Indeed Christianity is a matter of faith. It transcends logic. It surpasses understanding. It is miraculous. Faith is the “substance of things not seen.” It is not placed under a microscope and examined. God examines. He does not always subject himself to scrutiny. As C.S. Lewis wrote about the Christ image, the Lion, Aslan—“He is after all a wild lion, you know.”

The second is the resurrection. People don’t like the concept. The fact that Jesus Christ would not stay in the tomb is deeply disturbing to the world. The fact that He promised resurrection life to his followers, even more disturbing. The resurrection was such a reality to the early disciples that 11 of the 12 died martyr’s deaths. They “disdained life” looking for a better life to come.

Today many an author has made money from writing about how Jesus did not really die but somehow was spirited away and got married and lived a normal life or his body was removed and buried elsewhere. To them, the resurrection is too impossible to be true. But to the Christian, the resurrection is the cornerstone of the faith. It shows up in our earliest creeds. And many of us have died with the hope of being resurrected when Christ returns.

Oh, did I forget to mention that we believe Christ is going to return. Oh yeah, that causes problems too. It means that there is accountability. We believe that evil is punished and good is rewarded. Yes, that is an uncomfortable belief. In the book of John, it says that the world received him not because its deeds were evil. And so resurrection is a very uncomfortable concept because it suggests that there will be a judgment, an accounting for what we do and do not do. And we do not like to hear that.

Resurrection life is witnessed to even in nature and creation. It shows up in our seasons. The glorious Fall turns to the death of winter. Just when things get their worst, and we have had enough of snow and cold, there comes the harbingers of Spring. And the very rolling around of our seasons witnesses that there is resurrection life.

There is the daily resurrection of the sun. It dies in the evening and all becomes dark. Things appear to be over. Darkness has come. Next, we see the rays of light and dawn is upon us.

There is the cycle of life. Our relatives are old and death is near first to them and next to us. Yet in the cycle we seen new animals and people born. As the caskets are filled with one generation, another generation is born. It is a type of resurrection that appears in our lives and deaths.

Resurrection is witnessed to in the heavens, on earth and in the cycle of our lives. So why is it so hard to believe.

Resurrection is the hallmark of the Christian. And I believe that belief in a resurrection is a key doctrine and belief of the Christian life.

Not long ago, our family was in Branson and we passed a cemetery on a Sunday morning after church. Now cemeteries are places of death. Yet in it was glorious life. We went in to see the beautiful maples. Pretty soon other cars were stopping and older people not so far from the grave themselves got out to see the wondrous maple foliage.

One of the older men said : “Something really special is going on here.” He was right, something special was going on. There was a type of resurrection life going on in the cemetery. In this City of the Dead, maples had begun to turn. God was still alive. Glory came even to the cemetery. And for a few seconds, the living joined the dead in the presence of the Glory of God. It was but a taste of what the future holds.

Political Incorrectness

Politically Incorrect

I was discussing politically incorrect language with the distaff attorney next door, Ms. Windex. Really, I suspect that she is Mrs. Windex since I know her husband; however political correctness demands that I call her Ms. Windex. And Ms. Windex is not even liberal having taken her husband’s last name and not even hyphenating it to her maiden name Thickelthump which would have made her Ms. Thickelthump-Windex. I just call her Windex.

Windex, at my request, looked over my report to the Board of Directors and corrected to my reference to the Committee Chairwoman to the Committee Chair. So I found out to my surprise that the head of the Audit Committee, Mrs. Smith (sorry, Ms. Smith) was referred to as the Committee Chairperson or the Committee Chair. So that is how I learned that Ms. Smith is really a chair-not a chairwoman.

And thus did my lesson in political correctness begin. Windex then began to tutor me on political correctness. There are no actors and actresses anymore only actors (which now can be only male or female) . Oops sorry, they can be male, female or transgender.

Negroes died out long ago. They morphed into blacks and then into African Americans or was it other way around. The “N” word can only be used by someone of that hue in referencing to someone else of that hue in “Home” speak, which language I am not permitted to use.

And then there is the fact that my pet goose is named “Honkey.” Everybody looks at me funny (i.e. peculiarly) noting that the goose is after all a Canadian goose as opposed to an Artic White goose.

There are no deaf or dumb or blind any more. The deaf are hearing impaired, the blind are visually challenged and no one is dumb. There are only the mute. However, I apparently qualify as being dumb by being politically incorrect, which is now means intellectually challenged (which I think means “stupid”) as opposed to mute.

We need a George Bush for the politically incorrect. (Oops, I think we actually have one who will make sure that “No politically incorrect person will be left behind.”)

No longer are there homosexuals; who now apparently have all become gay, happy and well adjusted.

And so the language of my youth have fallen down the well of politically incorrectness and have been relegated to the hades of our forefathers containing such evils as “Amos and Andy”, “Enny, Minnie, Minnie Moe,” “Little African American Sambo” and Black Porch Jockies. Someday, history might even do the same to the Chappelle show.

My youth was misspent by playing “Cowboys and Indians.” (Oops, I mean “Cowboys and Native Americans”—Oops again -I meant “Cowpersons and Native Americans”) I also spent my time playing “Superman, Batman and Aquaman” – Oops- I mean “Superperson, Batperson and Aquaperson.” It is obvious, that all this is very confusing to me having spent a politically incorrect youth.

Intriguingly, Christ and Christianity was ahead of its time. Paul wrote that in Christ there was no slave nor free, but that all were brothers. Women had a high role in church history and the role of Mary elevated the view of women. Paul also wrote that there was no male or female in Christ.

And so slowly my education into political correctness continued.

After my conversation with Windex, I discussed these things with my wife- you know, the fact that Chairmen and Chairwomen were out and Chairs were in (And I foolish thought that chairs were something you sat upon.) We noted that Actors were in and Actresses were out. The term “doctors” refer both to men and to women physicians. The term “lawyers” refer both to male and female attorneys.

And so demonstrating my political correctness, I asked Brokerbelle, “Well what about hairdressers, aren’t most of them gay.

Brokerbelle responded: “Only the good ones.”

Evidently the old (oops, aged, or youth handicapped) die out because they can no longer adapted. It looks like HarleyDad is heading for elephant graveyard of political incorrectness.

Wanting to avoid becoming extinct, I quickly ran to the internet and located some resources that might help me and I will link you to a few.

A politically incorrect dictionary--http://www.newspeakdictionary.com/ns-pi.html

The Urban Dictionary--http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=politically+correct

The Official Politically Correct Dictionary--http://www.amazon.com/Official-Politically-Correct-Dictionary-Handbook/dp/0679749446

So all you have to do is copy and paste any of these links and you are on your way to “political correctness.” No longer will you be laughed at for using the term midget when you can use the terms “little people” or “vertically challenged.”

Bon Voyage!

Absolutely Blown Away

Really, I am absolutely blown away by how beautiful the Four-State area is in the Fall. It is hard to comprehend that people watch TV or go about their business (and some even work) during this season that is so beautiful.

WOW! Now I am not a nature worshipper. I believe that God gave us this great beauty to richly enjoy it. And during this season, it seems like almost everyday is Sunday, God's gift to man.

Sometimes it rains in fall. However, the rain only cleanses the air so that we can see things brightly and more clearly . And there is so much to see. Eye-candy everywhere and it is all free.

Oranges, golds, reds, yellows. It is an Autumn Rainbow and we are blessed to have it occuring all around us .
